Our puppy head start program consists of two private lessons that are one on one with the trainer, when your pup is four and five months old. Each lesson is about 20-30 minutes long. Your dog does NOT need to board overnight for these lessons, but it can be arranged if you prefer. These lessons lay the foundation for Gun Introduction at six months old. If you purchased your pup from OHK, these two lessons are included in your purchase price and are required to take advantage of your 2-3 weeks of Gun Introduction. 

Lesson #1: At four months old, we'll show you how to work your pup on live birds and teach you things you should be doing with him/her, as well as things you should not be doing. For example, please refrain from using terms like "sit" and "stay" until your pup is at least six months old. 

Lesson #2: At five months old, we'll show you how to begin quartering the field, using their nose to find live birds, chasing after fly away birds, work on recall, and continue to work on retrieve. Training while they're young gets them introduced to birds at the correct time, without putting too much pressure on them, as well as showing you how to keep your family pet under control without using too many commands. This is useful for families looking for a dual purpose dog. 

Puppy lessons can always be scheduled by calling or texting (530)735-6517. We do puppy lessons Tuesday-Friday 8:00-2:00, closed everyday 12:00-1:00. Puppy lessons can also be accomplished on Saturdays at our Open House training, which is 8:00AM-12:00PM. Saturday Open House is still one on one lessons with the trainer, but is held on a first come first served basis, with no scheduling required.
